An unfolding dream at The Dead Sea For those children in Israel with cystic fibrosis, Chaim Layeled’s convalescent lodging on the Dead Sea allows them a period of grace and joy - a time to have fun – a time to be kids again – a time to forget about being sick – a time to remember the meaning of home. For some this will be the last lodging before an eternity of sleep. On the recommendation of renowned Israeli doctors from the Schneider Children’s Medical Center in Petach Tikva and the Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan Chaim Layeled has recently opened a first of its kind convalescent lodging on the Dead Sea. The high mineral content in the air of the lowest place on earth allows the children to breathe more easily, and gives them the opportunity to strengthen their lungs. After a ten day stay they can return home without the need to hooked up to breathing equipment for a period of weeks and even months; to be spared recurring hospitalizations. What a boon for him and his family in his ongoing battle for survival. What a bastion of relief and hope!! To host a child for one day costs $125. Due to the harsh financial climate most families cannot hope to partake in this expense. The demand is overwhelming. To whom can we say no.
